We are making the world a better place - together!!

tree planting

Every single item of clothing ordered with us either plants a tree or collects plastic bottles due for our Oceans. Not only can you feel amazing in your incredibly soft, high quality, climate neutral clothing but you can also track your trees/plastic clean up that you have paid towards.

If those things together aren't incredible enough then there's also the cherry on top that these schemes provide much needed jobs around the planet. So we have a positive social, human, ocean, animal, carbon and climate impact all flung together in one small purchase.

 Mangroves in Madgascar

Madagascar is one of the world’s top biodiversity conservation priorities because of its endemic species and severe habitat loss rates. Reforestation in Madagascar is important because the destruction of the mangrove estuaries along the coastline has caused mudflats to wash into the ocean, destroying once-productive fisheries and increasing the vulnerability of coastal communities to hurricanes, tsunamis, and floods. In the dry deciduous forests, deforestation threatens one of the world’s rarest and most diverse forest systems.

Only 10% of Madgascars primary forests remain!

 Carbon capture

  • Mangroves capture up to four times more carbon than rainforests per hectare
  • It's known as 'blue carbon' because it's stored underwater in coastal ecosystems
  • Mangroves complex root systems anchor them to the soil allowing organic and inorganic materials to settle into the sediment below the surface, because of low-oxygen conditions decomposition of these materials is slowed causing more carbon to be captured by the soil

''Norway’s national plastic exchange system is incredibly effective - 97% of all plastic bottles are recycled, while the average in the US is around 30%.

The premise is simple. Incentivise people to recycle by giving them up to €0.30 per bottle returned. At the same time, incentivise producers to participate by writing off an environmental tax.

At Empower we’ve extended the idea behind Norway’s plastic exchange scheme to the global scale - by using blockchain.

Blockchain allows for seamless tracking and monetisation of plastic - even in third world countries where the majority of the population are unbanked.

By tracking every aspect of the journey - from on-the-ground plastic pickup operations to eventual reuse in other products, allows a level of transparency that’s attractive to brands, plastic processors and consumers.

This increases the value of waste plastic - and makes collection a viable, revenue-generating activity for the world’s underprivileged populations.'' -empower website
